The problem
Travelodge Business is the business-travel arm of Travelodge, the UK hotel chain. Its marketing team runs a monthly content hub for companies that book accommodation for their staff: a themed landing page with practical articles, Travelodge offers and a link straight into a Travelodge Business account.
Every month brought a new theme, new articles and new imagery, but each page still had to feel unmistakably Travelodge Business and be ready on launch day. Each edition also went to two audiences — prospects, and existing members — and every booking link had to carry campaign tracking and the reader’s account details, so the marketing team could see exactly which companies each page brought in.
My role
I built these Marketo landing pages month after month from 2021 to 2023, turning each campaign’s copy and designs into a fast, responsive page. October 2021’s edition, Embrace Flexible Working Patterns, is a typical example: three short articles on working on the go, the benefits of flexible working and the best remote-working tools, plus a SuperRooms™ feature, headline statistics and a library of earlier topics.
Approach
I hand-coded each page in HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript on a Bootstrap 4 grid, then built it into Marketo. Articles open into tabbed sections, Owl Carousel drives the article cards and the content library of earlier topics, and on phones the three-column layouts turn into swipeable carousels.
Marketo lead tokens add each reader’s customer and company IDs to every booking link, alongside UTM tracking, and separate core and members versions of the page speak to each audience. Every page was tested across browsers and devices before it went live.
